May 5, 2011
Young Liberals & Democrats of Asia (YLDA) President, Hng Chee Wey hopes that the Singapore General Elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner.
It is only two days before the Polling Day in Singapore set on May 7 by the Singapore Elections Department. Therefore, it is necessary for the department to undertake important steps in order to conduct free and fair elections.
“The YLDA anticipates that the Singapore Elections Department to take the necessary steps to conduct a free and fair democratic process in the city-state,” said the YLDA President.
As YLDA’s objective is also to raise social and political awareness especially among the youth, Hng urged the young and new eligible voters to vote in this coming elections.
“Higher voter-turnouts will reflect a more legitimate government in any elections. Therefore, the voters especially the youth must take the initiative to go out and cast their vote for the betterment of the country. It is your right and responsibility to vote,” urged Hng.
However, Chee Wey encouraged the voters to read and analyse about the candidates and their manifesto before casting their votes this coming Saturday.
“Vote rationally. Do not simply cast your votes especially due to emotional reasons which are exploited by certain irresponsible candidates,” added Hng.
